The implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects requires a clear methodology, a systematic approach, and effective coordination of all participants. One of the key projects in my practice was my work as a curator responsible for implementing the project management methodology for the construction of the Boguchanskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant — one of the largest energy facilities in the country.
Role and Areas of Responsibility
Within the project, I was responsible for planning the work involved in developing the full set of regulatory documentation required to implement a standardized management system. The documents covered both project-level management processes and the activities of the construction organization’s departments involved in the HPP implementation.
My tasks included:
- defining the set of regulations needed for effective project management;
- coordinating the teams involved in developing the documentation;
- shaping the structure of the documents to meet the project’s requirements and the scale of the construction.
This work made it possible to create not just a collection of individual instructions but a unified management system understood by all participants.
Development of Regulatory Documentation
The project’s complexity stemmed from the large number of departments and the significant volume of processes that required formalization. As part of managing the HPP construction, it was necessary to:
- describe planning and schedule control processes;
- define procedures for interaction between technical, construction, and administrative teams;
- establish document management rules;
- develop standards for reporting and monitoring;
- outline the areas of responsibility for all departments.
As a result, a comprehensive system of regulations was created, providing a unified management framework for all project participants.
Digital Management Tools
To efficiently manage the large volume of regulatory documents, I developed monitoring tools based on Microsoft SharePoint. The platform was chosen because of its ability to provide centralized storage, structuring, and real‑time updates of documents.
The solutions developed made it possible to:
- build a flexible version‑control system;
- monitor the status of document progress;
- manage the approval and updating of regulations;
- ensure transparency for all project participants.
SharePoint became not just a repository but a full-fledged tool for managing methodology and communications.
Results and Impact
Thanks to the implemented system, the company received:
- a unified methodological foundation for managing the HPP construction project;
- standardized and coordinated processes for interdepartmental interaction;
- improved quality of managerial decision‑making due to transparent procedures;
- reduced risks associated with non‑formalized processes;
- a convenient tool for monitoring and working with documentation.
The project became an example of how a properly built methodology and modern digital tools can significantly enhance the quality of large‑scale engineering project execution.
