Planning manager - Member of project management role. The main task of a specialist to perform this role is to manage the time of the project. This role can be assigned as the project manager, and individual experts - members of the project team.

Main Tasks of a Project Planning Manager

  1. Development of the Overall Planning Structure
    • Formation of a detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
    • Identification of key stages, milestones, and the logical sequence of task execution.
    • Creation of the project baseline for further monitoring and control.
  2. Schedule Planning and Development of the Project Calendar
    • Development of the project schedule specifying task durations, dependencies, and constraints.
    • Application of network planning methods (CPM, PERT).
    • Determination of the critical path and analysis of how changes impact project timelines.
    • Maintaining the schedule in an up‑to‑date and accurate state.
  3. Monitoring of Plan Execution
    • Regular monitoring of task status and updating of actual performance data.
    • Analysis of schedule and resource deviations, preparation of corrective action proposals.
    • Preparation of schedule reports (weekly/monthly progress reports).
    • Forecasting project completion dates.
  4. Managing Schedule Changes
    • Assessing the impact of changes on timelines, budget, and team workload.
    • Preparing schedule adjustment options and recommendations for the project manager.
    • Updating the project baseline after approval of changes.
  5. Interaction with All Project Participants
    • Collecting information from workstream leads and contractors.
    • Supporting communications between teams to align timelines and dependencies.
    • Participating in meetings and preparing visual materials on schedule status.
  6. Methodological Support
    • Ensuring adherence to corporate planning standards.
    • Supporting consistent project formats (templates, structures, processes).
    • Participating in the development of planning methodology, automation, and planning tools.
